What Must I Do to be Saved?

Introduction
1. It is an important question to consider
2. The one who asks it must realized the significance of what is being asked
3. It is the question that all men need to be led to
4. Look at this question tonight and seek to find an answer from the word of God
Body
I. People Who Asked the Question
A. Examples
1. Pentecost - Acts 2:36-37
2. Saul - Acts 9:3-6
3. Philippian jailer - Acts 16:25-30
B. All recognized sin
1. Romans 3:9-20
2. All are guilty before God. None is righteous.
3. Important step in asking what do I need to do.
4. Until we recognize sin we will not recognize the need to be saved
C. All realized own helplessness
1. There was nothing they could do of themselves
2. They didn't know the answer
II. The Answer to the Question
A. We must come to know God
1. We must first hear about Him - Romans 10:14-17
a. We will hear about Him through the teachings of the Bible
b. We will hear about Him by listening to others teach about Him
B. We must understand what God offers to us
1. A place in His kingdom. A part of the people of God
2. I Peter 2:4-5; 9-10
C. We must desire to be apart of His Kingdom. We must agree to obey Him.
1. We must repent of our sins - Acts 2:38
a. Sorrow over sin
b. Changing our sinful actions
2. We must confess our belief in Jesus - Romans 10:4-13
a. Confession before men
b. Not just once, but for the rest of our life. We are not ashamed of Jesus
3. We must be baptized - Acts 2:38; Romans 6:4-6
a. It is a death, burial, and resurrection
b. Death of old man of sin, resurrection of new man sin free
c. It is a new life - I Peter 3:21-22; Galatians 2:20
III. What It Means To the One Who Obeys
A. Becoming a child of God - I John 3:1-3
1. Privilege beyond compare
2. Romans 8:14-18
3. Heirs of God because we are children of God
4. Glory awaits
B. A new direction in life - II Corinthians 6:14-18
1. Life no longer about physical existence
2. Life is lived with a focus on that which is to come
3. Ephesians 2:4-7
4. We have been raised to sit in the heavenly places in Christ
5. What an exalted life
C. Hope of heaven - Hebrews 6:19-20
1. We focus our eyes on heaven
2. We look ahead and we see eternal life
3. We long to be in the presence of God forever
Conclusion
1. Do you need to obey? Do you need to become a Christian?
2. Do you recognize your sin and understand that only through obedience to Jesus sin can be washed away?
3. If so, why not decide tonight to follow Jesus
4. Enjoy the blessings of being a child of God
